'ROSS AND THE RED TIPPED AURORA' James Clark Ross: (1800-1862)
British explorer and naval officer.
He studied Earth's magnetism in the Arctic,
the Antarctic, England and the
South Pacific. On an expedition, with his uncle, he located the North
Magnetic
Pole (1831). He must have been very familiar with auroras. Did he ever
imagine that we would see them from a spacecraft high above and looking
down?
