Title: Admiral Byrd and the Frozen Frontier
2001 20X24 inches

ADMIRAL RICHARD E. BYRD
1888-1957, American aviator and explorer.

" This is the way the world will look to the last man when it dies."

On thanksgiving Day, 1929 a small tri-motored plane reached latitude 90
degrees South. An American flag floated down on an imaginary spot called the South
Pole. This would have been enough for most men. But not for a man like
Admiral Richard E. Byrd.

He went five times to the bottom of the world. He gazed on more unknown
area than any human in history. He lived alone on the terrible Ross Ice Shelf
where it was thought no man could survive. He built a small city under the ice
and called it Little America.
